Well, it's about time! Jamie and I finally were able to work and almost finish the landscaping in our front yard. It was quite the endeavor. It took awhile to get started but once we did...we just wanted to keep going and finish it. It took us the entire weekend to complete it and we're not done yet but at least we have a different looking yard. The weather was just crazy!!! Yesterday, in the morning it was pouring! At that point we figured that we were not going to be able to work on the yard but by noon, it was sunny!!! We phoned up a friend to borrow their truck and got going.......
This is what our front yard use to look like....there was only one flower bed at the front by the porch. The previous owners didn't seem to do anything so we had dead shrubs, an overgrown rose bush and weeds everywhere.!
Tah Da!!!!
We ripped out all the plants from the front bed and started over. It was quite the endeavor to edge the shape that we wanted. We really didn't know what we wanted so when we would go for walks we would look at everyone's yards and this is what came from our walks!

Heather came with me to pick out the shrubs and flowers (thanks again, Heather). It was quite the sight I am sure. We tried to act like we knew what we were doing but I am sure that we didn't even come close to looking the part. However, we had fun! I picked a deep blue hydrangia, red orange azaelias, white double peonies, dwarf boxwoods, pansies, and this cool star looking flower bush (see below).
Isn't this was neat??? I just loved it!
It was so fun planting everything. I saw our front yard being transformed. It was awesome. Now that everything is in, I can see spots that I would like to add more color to. I am thinking of adding some flowery ground cover of some sort. All we have to do now is get some cedar bark mulch to finish it off. Hopefully we can do it next weekend.
Heather and I were totally laughing at ourselves on the weekend because we are getting so old. I always hated helping my parents with their yard and never thought that I would put so much effort into a yard. I guess it has something to do with the fact that when it's your own it you want it to look the best. Man, I am getting old. Craziness I tell you!

Wow! You guys were really busy! Will be fun to see what you and Heather picked out for flowers and shrubs! You are so right...it is a lot more fun when it is your own yard that you are working on! Have fun! :-)
It looks great. I really like the edging design you did. The past week has been kinda snowy and miserable. Our yard is one big mud hole. Your green grass and shrubs look great.
hey jamie and megan your yard looks great its nice to see all the green and the flowers. almost all the snow is gone here but things are still brown.

The landscaping looks great and we're glad you're finally using all that training you received at home. See,there really is benefit from all those tortuous years when you were free labor for your parents! By the way we miss you. :)
