Parties, Peaches and Pictures!

The birthday party was a success! Thanks to all of you who came and for the presents. We are truly blessed with wonderful friends and family! Aidan enjoyed his birthday cake and kept himself rather clean. I was a bit shocked at how careful he seemed to be with it. At the end he played with the icing that was left on his tray but other than that he ate his whole piece. He loved playing with the other kids and watching them play. Our house was packed with 8 kids and 12 adults. As you can tell from the pics baby Audrey stole my attention and I had to snap some cute pictures of her too.

I love this picture! Aidan loves to watch the cars from our front window. Now that he has gotten taller he can stand and look over our couch and watch them. Jamie captured this moment for us. I can't believe how big he is getting. Speaking of big, I think Aidan might be transitioning to 1 nap a day. Twice, this past week he has gone down for his afternoon nap and decided to talk and play the whole time. Today, he spent and hour and a half in his crib talking to himself. There was about a 20 minute time span where he was completely quiet and I thought he had fallen asleep but then he started jabbering again. I am thankful that he is content in his crib for awhile so that I can get some work done but if he is going to one nap a day I think I am going to have some trouble transitioning. I have thoroughly enjoyed his two naps because it gives me more time. It would be nice if I could keep him in the habit of having quiet time. It would be great for him to learn that in the afternoon he could take a nap or just have quiet time where you lay in bed for awhile. So far, he doesn't mind....will see if I can keep that up.

Last weekend my friend, Tiffany, and I canned peaches for the first time ever! We can 48 jars! In the last batch we were putting the cans in the cannor and we heard a pop sound. We thought it was strange and decided to investigate to see if the cans were OK. Tiffany was lifting one out when the bottom completely broke off and fell into the pot! We have no idea why it happened and we were quite distraught of the loss. She just decided to leave the peaches in the water and let the other jars continue their sealing process. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. I can't wait to enjoy the fruits of our labor! Aidan seems to really like peaches right now too so here's to having peaches all year round. I can't believe how "Suzie Homemaker" I am becoming. I have frozen strawberries and apples in my freezer and now 24 cans of peaches! I wonder what will be next. I have to admit though, it is really nice having these options around. These are some of my favorite fruits and when you can't get them in the winter it is nice knowing I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for them. Just have to go to my freezer or cupboard.
Today, we took Aidan to have some 1 year pictures taken of him. We went to Paramount Portraits. We had them do his 6 weeks pictures and we were so impressed we decided to do it again. We figured that 1 was a pretty big milestone. Aidan did so well. I wondered with him walking if we would have difficulty keeping him still but he did great and Scott was so good and keeping things moving and capturing Aidan's attention. We took some family shots as well. I can't wait to see the end results. I hope that we have lots of choose from.

You are so brave to do peaches. I HATED canning peaches. I got so itchy from the peach fuzz having to peel the skins off. Perhaps next year I'll brave it again.....just haven't done any canning in about 4 years because the peaches were so stinkin' awful! So good for you.

Megan, great pictures as usual. It is amazing that a whole year has passed. I cannot tell you what a joy it is for us to enjoy watching you and Jamie parent Aidan. You are doing a wonderful job. Continue to enjoy the journey and process as these memories will continue to be precious to you both. I must agree that years ago I did not see you becoming "Suzy homemaker". I am glad that you are both doing it well and enjoying it. Give Aidan a hug from me. As always, love Papa................

I can applesauce every year and the same thing happened to me and my friend last year, so frustrating! Deedee is what my mom called her grandmother, so it was sentimental to her.
When are you guys headed to MI next?

Megan,

I am so disappointed. I was looking over your list of friends and saw that Matt and Heather both made it on the list, but Jody was the only one from our family to make it. When am I going to be part of the family. Just Kidding! hope things are going well. the anonymous brother-in-law from Texas
