Beginning the Transition

We have started the transition of moving Aidan from the crib to a "big boy" bed this week. We have had a single bed in our other bedroom along with some of his toys. We realized that we were going to have to take everything out of the room except for the bed so that Aidan would not have the opportunity to play when he should be sleeping. That has meant that our living room has becoming inundated with ALL of his toys. Since we have moved his train table out into the living room he has played with it even more. He has even learned how to connect the tracks (he did not make this entire loop but earlier he did make a squiggle line all by himself). He really enjoys sitting up on the table to play with his trains. You can't see it in this picture but the table is underneath one of our windows and he enjoys standing up and looking out the window as well.
So, back to sleeping in the "big boy" bed. Here is the first time that he actually slept in the bed. I have started putting him in the bed during his nap time. The first time, he immediately got off the bed, cried and then fell asleep by the door. When I went in to put him back onto the bed he woke up and did not go back to sleep that day. I tried putting him back in the bed and shutting the door but he decided it would be more fun walk around the room and play (with nothing). After awhile he started crying when I went in to check on him....he was on all fours with his fingers stuck in the floor vent. I am learning that with this transition comes shorter naps because he is still learning. The next day, I put him in the bed, he cried for a minute and was quiet. When I checked in on him he was asleep on the floor by the vent (the same one he got his finger stuck in the previous day). I put him back in the bed and he slept for almost 3 hours!!!!! I couldn't believe it! I was so excited. On Saturday, we put him in the bed for his nap and he cried hardly cried when I left and when it had been quiet for a bit we went to check on him and he had actually fell asleep on the bed! Now, his feet were hanging off but he was on the bed. That nap did not last long either because I had gone in to put a couch pillow on the floor in case he would fall off because we hadn't gotten a bed rail yet and he was moving and I had to catch him as he was falling off. Of course, that woke him up and he did not want to go back to sleep after that.

I have been so encouraged by how he has taken to sleeping in his new bed. We are going to start slowly adding bedtime this week but we aren't going to push it at the same time. I suppose that if I had had my way I would have had him sleeping in his "big boy" bed at night already but Jamie reminded me that we did not have to rush him. We still have to paint his room so Jamie doesn't want to move him completely because when we paint (hopefully this coming weekend) he will have to go back into the crib. We were going to paint his room this past weekend but things came up that made us realize that we were not going to have the time. We did get a bed rail this weekend so hopefully this will help him stay in the bed even more. I'll try to keep you all (that are interested) how he continues this transition.

As for me, I am 28 weeks and doing great. I have to say from the last time I posted my sciatic nerve pain has stopped. I was able to walk more during the last couple of weeks have found that it has made a HUGE difference and now I am not struggling with the pain. I will be going for the glucose testing tomorrow....to make sure I do not have gestational diabetes. I tested negative with Aidan so I am hoping that it will be negative this time around as well. Now that I am in my third trimester I have to start going every two weeks for check-ups.....I remember with Aidan that going every two weeks seemed to help the last trimester going even faster so it is exciting to me....the end is in sight.

please do keep posting about Aidan's progress with the big bed transition. Good tip on keeping the toys out of the room - i"ll have to remember that when we move Taeya :)
did you do anything to get rid of the sciatic nerve pain, or did it disappear on it's own? i'm finding i'm having problems now - really affects my walking, so i haven't been out in almost a week! YIKES! not what i had hoped for.
