Quesnel

This past Friday (last day of school) we left in the late afternoon to head to Quesnel to visit Heather and Matt. We hadn't seen them since the winter so it was high time for a visit. Jamie and I decided to pack the car while the boys took their naps and then take off for the long car ride. Aidan was thrilled to go. He didn't even nap he was so excited. When we finally let him get up he just went running from his room yelling "Yipppeeeee" He was so excited to see his Auntie and Unkie.

This was Jaxon's first long car ride as a "big" boy. We went to Quesnel last summer but he was still a baby. We had the back seat filled with toys, books, munchies and sippy cups. We hadn't even left Chilliwack yet and Aidan was already complaining that there was not enough room to play with some of his toys.

When we got past Hope and started heading up the mountain towards Lytton Aidan seemed to struggling with car sickness. He didn't want to eat dinner cuz he was "not feelin good" He finally decided to put his hat on and fall asleep. I am not sure how he would have done through that section of highway where it is windy. I hadn't really thought much of bringing Gravol.....I think I will remember it for next time....just in case.

Jaxon did great for the long car ride. He found the musical choo choo and pressed the button from Chilliwack to Hope. Tons of fun at least he thought so. The couple of times that he got bored he would cry a bit until we distracted him and then he would be good to go again. He fell asleep right before 100 Mile where we stopped to put them into their pj's and got them "ready for bed" Our tradition has been to stop in 100 Mile at the Tim Hortons for coffee and cookies.
We made it there safe and sound.

The weather wasn't the greatest there for the first couple of days but each day it would get a bit better. Since the boys would get up way before Matt and Heather; Jamie and I would get up with the boys, make some coffee, get them some breakfast and take it downstairs where we would watch cartoons and play. I had to bring my computer (work) along seeing as I am not on holidays like the hubby. I would get a good amount of work done in the morning and be able to hang out and play in the afternoon.

Matt had to work nights the first two nights we were there so he would always be sleeping until the boys would go down for their afternoon naps. One of the first days we decided to go for a walk to the nearby elementary school to let the boys play and give Matt some quiet sleep time. The weather started out great while we were at the playground but it started to sprinkle so we had to head back home. It was funny how it would quickly change from being warm and sunny to cold and cloudy.

I think he was looking at Auntie in this picture. I was trying to get a smile and for some reason they were hard to get in that moment.

One of Aidan's most favourite activities while at Auntie and Unkie's is throwing the ball for Tika. He absolutely loves playing catch with their dog (even though he is a bit scared of her at the same time). Matt had gotten a ball throwing thing to make it easier to throw balls farther for Tika and Aidan loved it. He would get a bit distracted with the toy and not throw the ball all the time.
As the week went on he would get more comfortable with her. Then of course there would be a situation that would just put him over the edge and he would be scared of her again.

Having Auntie in the picture was the only way we were going to get a picture of the boys with Tika. Jaxon seemed to enjoy her but would always keep his distance to a point. I guess the boys reaction to her was normal in the sense that they are not around dogs a lot as we do not have one and not a lot of people we hang out with do not have dogs. Hopefully as they get older they will be more comfortable with dogs.

Auntie had the great idea (before we arrived) to buy some bubbles for the boys. We had "bubble time" once a day for the last couple of days. Both of the boys had a great time with them. It was fun to watch their excitement and hear their giggles over something so simple.

Aidan was so fascinated with them that all he wanted to do was to chase them and pop them.

Unkie and Jamie seemed to get into bubble blowing too. Getting the biggest bubble was all part of the fun.

Jaxon's reaction to the bubbles was priceless. He kept yelling with glee and trying to touch the bubbles that Jamie would blow for him. I think this pictures says it all.

Here Jamie was trying to blow a bit bubble but Aidan was ready to get it.

Jaxon and Unkie had some good laughs together. I know that Jax really enjoyed him immensely.
I think this picture is great because Jaxon's head covers her baby bump quite nicely =)
The four of us had some good times together with playing lots of Super Mario Brothers in the evenings and naptime.
Thanks Matt and Heather for letting us invade your home for a long extended amount of time. It was really good to just hang out together.
