The Countdown has begun

This fall has been a very busy one for our family....or at least the boys and I have feel the effects of Jamie's crazy schedule. However, we have reached a point where we see the light at the end of the tunnel; at least for Christmas. We are all looking forward to the Christmas break and the time to spend with family.
Before we can truly enjoy the down time of Christmas we have a couple more weeks to plug through. I have to be honest that I have struggled with Jamie's schedule. Not because he is gone so much and busy but because my schedule and life (with the boys) is not busy but very mundane and quiet. If any of you know me, I do enjoy keeping myself busy. This is not to say that I haven't been busy with work but it is the same thing all day every day and most days my conversations never pass the child depth. I have had to really give everything back over to HIM and ask for contentment and peace. Something I am working through and I feel like I am doing good at this point.

This past weekend Jamie was gone for most of it with his Huskie Classic basketball tournament that he hosts every year. We were able to go to several of the games which the boys and I completely enjoyed. In the afternoon while the boys were napping (Aidan quietly plays in his room) I cleaned the house and put up our Christmas decorations. The boys had been asking to put up our tree but I knew I couldn't do it without Jamie. We had already decided that we would put the tree up on Sunday. I decide to put everything else up so that the boys could enjoy the decorations.
It was so fun watching them discover the decorations when they got up. They went throughout the house finding all the snowmen, trees, stockings and candles. They were so cute. Aidan told me that he really liked all the Christmas things.
Sunday afternoon finally came, the football game was on in the background and the boys eagerly waited to hang the ornaments. Jamie and I put the tree up with lights in record time. The best part was that we were able to do it without arguing. He was really good and patient with me. For some reason, I am the one that becomes a bit picky when it comes to putting the lights on the tree. If he doesn't hang them right on his side of the tree I start getting bossy and snappy. I am proud to say that this only happened once and he reminded me to relax and then everything was fine. To be honest, I have no idea why I become like this but it is a good thing that Jame doesn't let me get away with it :) He keeps me honest.
The boys did an awesome job of putting the ornaments on the tree. They both had their sides of the tree and seemed to really like decorating the tree. I wanted a picture of both boys in front of the tree but in Aidan fashion he was not going to have his picture taken. Jaxon on the other hand was all about having his picture taken so he gave me some funny faces.
It finally feels like the Christmas season has hit our house. The house has the lights and the decor.....making it feel warm and cozy for the holidays. The only thing missing from our tree is the candy canes that the boys reminded me we need to get.
We have a countdown calendar on our fridge showing the days that we have till Christmas and when we will leave for Michigan. We will have a bit more of a low key Christmas here this year because Jamie's sister's and their families won't be around. We have a couple of things planned but not too busy.

Then off we head to the mid-west. My hope is there is snow for the boys to play with and many nights of games, good food and lots of fun times. I don't have to hope too hard because we normally have lots of fun and do enjoy our time there.

Meg your house looks great!
I can imagine how you're feeling with Jamie's schedule and you are a 'go getter' kinda person. We would LOVE to hang out, as we've tried but I know we have to wait until the new year. Can't wait to see you again. Merry Christmas and have fun visiting your family.

I appreciate your honesty and just the way you describe the family decorating time. It looks great! All the best to Jamie as he finishes his busy season of BB and extra studies.
