My Mom....and her gift!

I received a package this afternoon with this as its contents. It is a beautifully handmade quilted tree skirt! You see, my mom is a quilter. She has loved to quilt for as long as I can remember. I remember as a little girl she would buy me needlework or cross-stitch crafts but I hated them. The reason why I hated them was because I could never (and I mean never) get them to look like the sample or picture on the cover. And because it would never look like I thought it should (just like the cover) I would refuse to finish or eventually not even do them.
I am sure this frustrated and saddened my mom at times but I knew that this craft of quilting, needlework, cross-stitch was not for me. So, instead of learning the craft I have instead, learned to appreciate and love the beautiful things my mom has made. When I left and went to university she made me a quilt for my bed. It was wonderful gift and one that I will treasure for the rest of my life There is so many wonderful things that are said through the blankets, Christmas stockings, and now tree skirt that she has made for me and our boys. I know the amount of hours and needle pricks that she puts into these treasures are countless but the love that comes through these beautiful gifts far out ways everything.

These priceless gifts will be with us forever. The boys each have and sleep with their blankets that my mom (Nana) made for them when they were born. The boys have no idea of the work and hours my mom put into these blankets but they do know that Nana made them and they love them. They never go to sleep without them. But when they get older they will have this wonderful memory and blanket to keep for all time.
Every Christmas from here on out our Christmas tree will have this beautiful skirt and I will have the memory of picking out fabrics and phoning my mom telling her I had received it and letting her know how absolutely beautiful it is!
Thanks Mom! I sit here with tears in my eyes because I am so blessed by the many things that you have spent countless hours on for me and my family. I hope that you know how very treasured these things are as well for your hands that made them.
I love you!

Love it! My mom is crafty as well. She quilts, knits, crochets, needlepoint, paints, sews you name it she can do it. I never picked it up either because it would never look like hers. My girls also got quilts when they were born and they sure are treasured by them. Quilts are so fun and unique. Not sure if your quilt from college had this or not but my first quilt my mom ever made me was made from dresses she had sewn me when I was little, so it was always fun to show people and say this was my easter dress when I was 5 ext. FUN!
