A Smile Worth a Thousand Words....

So, this is what I found our little stinker doing yesterday while he was suppose to be taking a nap. Now that he has learned to pull himself up on almost anything he figured out that if he reached out he could grab the blinds that are behind his crib and look outside (what a neat trick). Oh how proud he was of himself. When I went in to make him lay down he was grinning for ear to ear. I am finding that it is so difficult to be stern with him when he is just having fun and grins at you. I am going to have to get a think skin eventually :) Needless to say, I had to pull his crib away from the wall a bit so that he can't reach it anymore. Silly kid.
Since he has learned how to crawl we have moved our coffee table against the main window in our living room to provide more space for him to move and play around. That way I don't have to worry about him trying to pull himself up on the coffee table or him smoking his head on a corner. My living room looks like a bomb went off in it when Jamie comes home from school but I suppose it is a small price to pay for our little one to have room to play. Thankfully he doesn't have tons of toys yet so it is easy and quick to clean up in the evening once he has gone to bed. This week he has found delight in playing under a table that sits next to the couch. I don't know what it is about it but he loves to crawl underneath and sit.
I also learned this week that he needs to get out and play with more little ones his age or older. At mom's group this week he was one of the loudest one's there and when playing next to another little girl he hasn't learned the art of sharing or being gentle. He definitely is all boy. Oh the challenges we face ahead.....
Today we went to the park with a friend of mine, Jocelyn. We met for coffee but because it was so nice I suggested that we go to the park because with a 7 month old I figured it would be easier. We took him to the swings and this was his first time in a swing by himself. Oh how he loved it! There was two boys next to him that were swinging really high and he had to watch them. It looked like he was making a mental note for later when he gets to be a big kid of how he should swing. It was the funniest thing ever. At one point I was trying to feed him lunch; between each bite he would watch the kids on the playground and then anyone that would walk by he was give them the biggest smile. One gentlemen even asked me if he smiles like that all the time.
I think sometimes if I am not careful I can take for granted how good Aidan is. From the moment he wakes up in the morning to the time he goes to bed he will give almost anyone a smile. His smiles seems so contagious. If there is one thing that I have learned from his smiles is that everyone deserves one. Smiles brighten the day for anyone and at times they are so needed. Words are not always necessary when you can say it with a smile. I hope that I never forget that.

Megs, you do a great job of capturing Aidan in the moment and showing those who are far away a glimpse into his life, thanks.

Megan & Jamie, these pictures do tell a neat story. Mom and I were just commenting on how Aidan looks so much like Ben when he was that age. In my experience, children like Aidan that smile all the time, are children that feel very secure and content and comfortable with their place in the world. He may very well have that temperment and disposition all of his life. What a joy that would be. I can't tell you how encourging it is to me to see these pictures in the midst of the difficult business of life. They make us all smile! Thanks again. Give Aidan a hug from Papa..................
