Mr. Smiley

These pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago but they show exactly what Jaxon is working on these days. I wish I could remember when I started the process with Aidan in eating on your own but no such luck.
The craziness of basketball begins this week. The next two weekends Jamie has basketball tournaments with his team. For the last couple of years Jamie and his team have hosted a bball tournament at Abby Middle. It has turned out to be a great tournament but it just makes things rather busy/crazy.

Tomorrow is the first league game of the season. It is a home game so we will be going to cheer the Huskies on. The boys truly do love being in the gym and watching basketball. Jaxon will be a bit more of a challenge this year as he is definitely more mobile than he was last year. His ability to sit for longer periods of time will be tested for sure.

We had our first practice run this past weekend. Jamie was reffing some high school games and we went to watch. Aidan loved every minute and was totally fine to sit and watch as long as he had a snack. Jaxon tested his boundaries but didn't do too bad. It was our last non-busy weekend as every weekend coming up will be busy with either basketball or family until Christmas! Yikes, it is going to be busy....busy but fun.

We put up our Christmas tree this past weekend as well since we realized that this would be the only time that we could do it together. We really don't like the process of putting up our Christmas tree but once it is up it looks so good. I will try to take a picture and post it later. I would really like to add to my Christmas decor but I find it is so expensive but also I don't really know what I want my decor to be. I do have a bit of snowmen items but I wish I hard more garlands or berry wreaths, candles, etc. What I really want is a tree skirt. However, I have been looking but am unwilling to pay $50+ for a nice one. I think I am going to ask my mom if she would make me one with any leftover fabric she may have from the stockings that she made us this year. :) What do you think, mom??? :)
I am waiting in anticipation for the package from my mom that has our stockings. My mom has made everyone's stockings that are at their house for Christmas. The last several Christmas's I have asked my mom if she would make me a set for our home. She finally said yes, or had the time :) I love Christmas stockings! Sometime I think they are one of my favourite things during Christmas. I already have some stocking stuffers for the boys....Definitely time to start some fun traditions with the boys. Maybe I'll keep the tradition of having an orange at the bottom of our stockings....;)

As you have probably noticed there are no pictures of Aidan in this post. That is because Aidan has not really wanted to have his picture taken lately and if I do snap a picture of him, he is scowling instead of smiling or hiding his head....and as you can tell Jaxon is our smiley boy at the moment. I know this is a phase with Aidan but we are hoping it passes before family pictures during Christmas.
Aidan and I have been having some battles lately and it has been rather frustrating for me. Jamie and I talked one night on what I could be doing differently and so I have been trying to not react to him but to respond. This has been rather difficult for me but I have definitely noticed a difference. He was pushing my buttons before and would get the reaction he wanted and then he would not listen to me. Now that I don't react we are having a good time and he is listening so much better. Not to say that we have it perfect but we are making progress.
One of my favourite comments that Aidan told me last week:
Aidan: "Mommy, I like Daddy better than you."
Me: Oh really, why?
Aidan: "Because Daddy and me the same."
Me: (laughed) "Yes Aidan, you and daddy are the same."
Aidan: "but I like you too."

Stockings are my favourite too! I think it is because I love treats, and you can fill the stocking with so many fun little treats! All the best over the craziness of fun family times and basketball.

Great pictures of Jaxon! He does love having his picture taken which is awesome!

As for the Tree Skirt, watch the Michael's flyers...they often mark everything down to half price long before Christmas. Although the idea of having your Mom make one sounds even better because it would have meaning to it!

Nice pictures Meg, Even though I miss Aidan in them. I'll make you a tree skirt if we can find a good pattern of course. Glad you liked the stockings when they came. Christmas decorations take a lifetime to gather. Just buy a little something each year. On sale of course :)Love ya, Mom

you're right ... respond, not react. I just read that in my new fave book "Have a New Kid by Friday". Have you guys seen it? I'm noticing a big change in my parenting and in my boys' behaviour. The author says that when we respond to something like medication, it's a good thing. When we react to it, it's a bad thing. That really made me see the difference. We really ought to get these boys together one of these ... months? :)
