We planned to do a couple of water balloon games but quickly realized that these balloons weren't going to be pop very easy. So, the games turned to just trying to pop the balloons. Who knew dollar store balloons were so tough! It was hilarious trying to get the balloons to pop. Jamie and Kelly went on the deck to drop from higher ground and it still didn't work.
After the balloons the kids decided to try out the trampoline and asked for Jamie to spray them with the hose. It was a great hit. They loved jumping and getting wet at the same time. Gotta love the simple things in life.....a trampoline and water....so funny! Some of the kids didn't really like it so they got off and just watched or went and played with other toys. Thankfully, I don't think there was ever a moment when any kids were not enjoying themselves....or at least I hope.
Taeya and Aidan know each other from Sunday school and they are hilarious with each other. As parents we haven't ever really seen much interaction between the two so it was funny to watch them. They teased each other and a laughed like old friends. It was so funny! Aidan has finally met his match...she gives it right back to him when he tries to talk smack.. it was awesome!

Aidan is 5!
This week has been a birthday celebration to say the least. Aidan turned 5! It was funny to think that we now have a school aged child. He has grown up so much! He has moved from refusing having his picture taken to tolerating it and choosing to make funny faces for most pictures. However, the funny faces reflect who he is....and I love it!
The day of his birthday we spent most of the day painting the trim on our house. In the evening his Mimi and Pa came and took him to Castle Fun Park and White Spot. They had a wonderful time together; it was perfect birthday treat. Especially for a boy that truly does cherish personal time.
The day after his birthday we all went to the PNE. It has become a family summer tradition for us. Jamie and I use to go before kids and then once Aidan turned 3 we took him for the first time. We had a perfect weather day and enjoyed the food and the shows.
The first show we went to the was the Superdogs. We got there a bit early but it meant we could pick any seats in the house. Aidan was so excited and when the dogs came out he was totally focused on the dogs and the show. I found him numerous times laughing as he watched the dogs.
After the Superdogs we went to watch the motorcycle show but that was short lived as they had parts of the show that blew fire in the air and both boys were freaked out. It would have been an awesome show but the boys didn't want to stay. Too bad.
After the motorcycles we headed to the barns to look at the animals and get a seat for the duck and pig races. I have no idea why I love the duck and pig races because it really isn't much but I suppose it is apart of tradition and what we have always done. We were waiting for the races to begin and we were taking self-portraits....this one Jamie actually took but it shows one of the crazy faces that Aidan was giving me all day. Crazy kid.
We definitely had our fair share of treats that day. Mini doughnuts, fresh lemonade and dole whip (ice cream). It was a perfect way to celebrate a birthday and spend a great day together as a family. It was the first time we went with no stroller and it worked out ok. The boys walked everywhere and never once complained. Jamie gave a couple of shoulder rides and then Jax conked right during the last show (acrobats) and had to be carried to the car...but I think we are definitely hitting the no stroller stage.. LOVE IT!
On Saturday Aidan had his birthday party. It was his first ever friend birthday party. 4 out of the 5 friends he chose were able to make it. We decided to keep it fairly simple and make it a water theme. We were able to borrow this great slip n slide that the kids had a blast on.
We had lunch first and I think it was a good thing since it took the kids a couple of minutes to get comfortable with everyone. So, while they were eating they started to talk and laugh with one another. When lunch was over they were ready to get wet and just have fun.

Aidan is five already! Wow. How time flies. The PNE is a great way to celebrte your birthday. I remember going before you were born. Maybe someday we can go with you again.
